Overview
The Behavioural Insights Team (BIT) is a unique company, started inside No 10 Downing Street, as the world’s first government institution dedicated to the application of behavioural sciences. BIT are now a world-leading consulting firm whose mission is to help organisations in the UK and overseas to apply behavioural insights in support of social purpose goals. As a fast growing, international business with increasing headcount, BIT required a major upgrade at the London office to improve connectivity, and optimise firewall, network infrastructure and wireless systems.
Challenge
BIT’s legacy network infrastructure and connectivity was a mix of different vendors that were approaching end of life and proving costly and inflexible to upgrade the hardware and update software licensing. The current architecture also did not provide the high level of scalability, security and cost effectiveness required by the business going forward. The internet and network bandwidth was also limited and struggling to support increasing employee headcount, use of cloud services and lacked resiliency.
Solution
Following on from an initial onsite visit, survey and gaining an understanding of BIT’s business goals and challenges in more detail, NVOY Technologies designed and propose a Ubiquiti Software Defined Network (SDN) solution, upgraded Watchguard firewall and 1GB internet connection with auto-redundant backup line, as the optimal solution for current and future network infrastructure requirements. This was delivered as a full service to BIT including project management, implementation and deployment, validation, testing and handover.
Results
The project was delivered successfully, on-time and to budget, reducing the traditional network infrastructure CAPEX and OPEX costs by over 40%. The key benefits to the business included fast, secure Wi-Fi, allowing users to safely access cloud services and fully utilise the collaborative office space. For the IT department, the solution provided a centralised system with superior security, scalability, efficiency and resiliency with high availability and failover. This gives the IT team greater control and agility to support the business and IT users, allowing fast upgrades and instant deployment of the latest security patches.
